shh, you are reading way too loudly.

Apparently Nate didn't get the memo that mommy and daddy were out getting plastered last night, since he was up at 6:51 this morning.

It was fun, and if you missed it, there will be many more partying opportunities in the near future. We'll have everyone over for some of Kurtie's Home Grillin' once it's warm.

Thanks to Mike (world's greatest designated driver), Jill, Karen, Summer and Jaime (also a new ESQ. as of yesterday!) for being there on my day. Love you all. And the Buca di Beppo leftovers are rockin' for hangover breakfast.

Thanks also to all my friends who emailed me, posted yesterday or called. I am so lucky to have you all.

You Know!

Just call me Esq.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See for yourself: go to the bar admissions site and search by my last name. Or by Capital, my law school.

Thanks to God, my family, my dear friends, and everyone who prayed for me and wished me well. I could not have done it without you, and I love each of you very, very much.

I'll be sworn in May 8. If you want to come, let me know. It'll be at the Ohio Theatre and there's room for as many people who want to come.

I am trying to decide if I am taking the babies or not, because it's going to be boring for them. But I really, really, want them there. I think I am going to try to make it happen.

Love to all!

Focus on the good stuff

You know what I like? Froot Loops-scented baby kisses. And the sweet perfume of Hostess Blueberry Mini-Muffins that hangs in the air around me after a hug, too.

Just trying to focus on the things that really matter.

Just woke from another night of restless sleep. I am so tired, but I just can't sleep. Didn't have any weird, weatherman-obsessed dreams last night, but I still didn't sleep well. I need a vacation. Somebody take me on a cruise, OK?

The Benadryl seems to be keeping the hives/welts/whatever at bay, but as soon as the med wears off they start creeping back. Geez, I'm only thirty-something and I'm already forcing everyone to hear sordid tales of my medical woes.

And, joy, no cavities for either of us yesterday. The dentist was very nice and told me Aron's teeth look just fine. And, more from the "See, told you I wasn't a bad mom" department: the dentist told me one of his 5-year-old patients had SIX cavities. When he told the kid's mother, she wagged her finger at her kid and said, "I told you not to drink all that Mountain Dew!" The dentist asked just how much the kid drank each day. About THREE or FOUR cans, she replied. I hear a Willy Wonka, Oompa Loompa-inspired song coming on.

Chris, Beth and Dina: sorry I couldn't come to play today. Nate's nap has to occur at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays so he gets enough rest before Aron goes to preschool at 12:30 p.m. on those days. Catch me on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until mid-May, when preschool is finally done! Then we have the whole summer open! That is, unless I have a real job!

Well, I'm going to find out tomorrow fairly early if I passed or not. I will post the results here. Thanks to everyone for sticking by me through this entire process.

Arr Captain, there be gamers here!

I can always tell when Kurt's Dungeons and Dragons buddies have been here gaming. The evidence is clear: pencil eraser dust on my kitchen table. It's so cute that my Kurtie plays D&D with his geeky buddies. He's even going to a gaming party on Saturday. As punishment for this abandonment, I'll be at the mall. Totally unsupervised. Of course, I will also have the kids, so the most I'll get a chance to buy will be a cup of buttery mini pretzels from Auntie Em's. But no matter, it'll still feel naughty because I could go to the Gap and buy a whole new summer wardrobe. Of course, I won't, because the kids won't let me out of the play area, I'm sure.

Aron just said to me this morning that he had a funny dream last night: He dreamed he was a girl, he giggled. "What did you do as a girl," I asked. "I worked a lot and I cleaned up cat poo." Funny, that's what I do around here: work a lot and clean out the litter box.

I too had a strange dream; they increase in numbers and weirdness when I am stressed. I dreamed I had an affair with ... Al Roker. But it was weird because I was living in a college dorm. I would analyze this for you, but I have no explanation. Only embarrassment.

Also of note: My body totally broke out in red, itchy welts yesterday. It started in the morning and by bedtime I was almost totally covered. Perhaps it was hives, or exposure to some unknown allergen that I have been unable to pinpoint. But I have NO allergies that I know of, except to milk/ice cream, which I love and consume anyway. By 11 p.m. last night I looked like a leper. Luckily we had Benadryl, so I took two and this morning they were almost entirely gone. Weird. Probably some psychosomatic response to stress, I guess ... she says, utilizing Dr. Phil-like diagnosis skills and a big word that she doesn't really understand.

Well, it's off to the dentist this morning for Aron and me. Hopefully he will be cavity free again or else I'm going to get the accusatory stare from the dentist, which looks like concern but is really judging me, i.e. Aron has cavities, ergo I am a bad mother.

That crap doesn't work on me anymore. After doing work for Jim, I KNOW what bad mothering is. A couple of cavities won't get anywhere in court.

Mission: Ignore

OK, I find out the results of the you-know-what on Friday. I'm in a holding pattern right now. OK, actually, it's more like a clinching pattern. I'm clinched: my teeth, my stomach, my shoulders. The breathing is shallow.

I mean, sure, I am trying to play it cool. Heck, I already experienced the depression, shame and disappointment of failing once, so what's one more time? It's got to be easier to fail each time, I keep telling myself. It's the studying and taking it again that totally stinks.

Sorry I haven't written much. I've been working and trying not to think about anything other than becoming a lawn and garden care expert. When the going gets rough, that's when it's time to rethink everything and consider a career change, right? Nah. It's just part and parcel of the holding pattern my life is in right now.

In the meantime I've had some job interviews. Nothing has come of them yet. I don't really want to say much about them because it would be a job that I would love, so, like the bar, I'm trying to tell myself that I am chill about it and that it's fine if I don't get what I want. But that's the real test isn't it? I know I want the job, I say I've put all my trust in the higher power, and that I'm happy with how it all comes out. Well, I'm sure that will be put to the test here shortly.

Anyway, the boys are doing great. Nate is rabid for Thomas the Tank Engine and Aron is Mr. Creative. He pretends, play acts and has a fantastic imagination. He loves swords, his Batman utility belt and Spiderman gloves.

Nate's climbing on the couch again! Gotta motor.

Who needs a baby fix?

Looks like we have another bed baby infestation.

How you doin'?

As a matter of fact, I am cute.

Channeling his inner Russell Crowe, Nate attempts to thwart the efforts of the photographer.

Two scoops of Double Cutie Delight.

Karma Chameleon

I haven't been alive as long as some, but I've become aware of some universal truths that cannot be denied. Here's one I see fairly often: whether you believe in hell or not, if you jack your Karma, you will live to regret it. Not die and regret it, LIVE and regret it.

There are ramifications for each misdeed, each bad decision, every wrong thought and action. And the ramifications occur in this lifetime.

OK, now this declaration is about as powerful and prophetic as my telling you that if you hold up an apple and let it go, it will fall to the ground. Gravity exists. Karma exists. I don't care what religion you consider yourself to adhere to, even if in your church/temple/synagogue there is no mention of the concept of Karma. Call it whatever you want, but the universe, by its very design, seeks equilibrium. It will right itself. A surplus in one area will be countered by a deficit in another. This is the way of things.

Of course, this is Karma (as fans of "My Name is Earl" will note). Having subscribed to this way of thinking for years, I note that in many instances, God's ways are NOT all that mysterious, especially where failure to act on your part, or an act motivated by a lack of thought or through intentionally negative acts, you will suffer in some way. And I believe that the beauty of this is not God's micromanagment of your life. You aren't being afflicted or punished because of retribution, ala hellfire and brimstone.

The universe was designed to seek neither good nor bad; it seeks nothing (e.g., the universe is constantly expanding; it's a scientifically proven fact). How does that play out here on Earth? "Bad" must be counteracted and corrected. Even too much "good" is counteracted and corrected. Because, as I have said before, what is good or bad?

Well, don't make excuses for yourself ... you KNOW if you've done wrong to yourself or another. And for less obvious events, the universe is figuring it out for you. Not good or bad, but yin and yang. But you are still primarily responsible for your accountability to the other souls on this planet. You are accountable.

So be the boss of you. Do good, be good. Then, it's all good.

The gravity of baby accoutrements ... they're sucking me in!

Will someone PLEASE tell me why I am freaking out when I try to box up baby clothes and get rid of my maternity clothes? I nearly lost it yesterday when I considered getting rid of the nursing tops. I mean, I have been TRYING to convince myself through logic and even keel, emotionless consideration that having more kids is not a good idea. That two is enough. Why mess with the perfect little package that is our family? I'd rather be 40 than pregnant.

But I just can't bring myself to do it yet. Sigh. Three years passed after Aron's birth before I felt like it was [stop...] Natie Time! AUUUUGH! The hormones!!

Just don't tell Kurt. It was so easy to work my mojo on him for the last two conceptions, but I think he's wise to my game now. Maybe if I don't mention it for a few years he'll forget to be suspicious and become susceptible once again to my hormone-driven, "who me, get pregnant?" wooing.

What am I saying?! Must ... deny ... natural ... instinct ... to ... create ... more ... schweet ... babies ...
