Virginia Tech is only minutes from my hometown of Roanoke (Salem), Virginia. I was a Mountain Girl before I was Mountain Mama. I've been a Hokie in my heart my whole life.

Intrigued

I plan to read this book, The Feminine Mistake by Leslie Bennetts.

People magazine claims it is a provocative examination of the economic pitfalls of the stay-at-home mother. The author states that "The only thing I regret, as a working mother, is the energy I wasted on feeling guilty."

I stopped feeling guilty after the first few months. You only have to get your water cut off one time before you realize it's better to work then stay at home and struggle, starve, fret and obsess about living on one income. And a mommy pained by that kind of anxiety ain't much of a mommy.

Anyway, I'm sure the legions of stay-at-home mommies will pounce on this book like a sex offender living too close to a park. But, heck, if you're any kind of thinking person, seems to me you have to at least consider the idea that placing your financial security in the hands of another person (spouse, partner, whatever) is risky. You can never tell when your partner might lose his damn mind, kick you to the curb for a young hottie and leave you to figure out how to support yourself (spousal support is NOT easy to get anymore).

I still think every mother has to do what feels right to her, and to do the best she can with what she has made. And no matter her choices, as long as the kids are happy and thriving, that's all that really matters.

Where's the commitment?

Not only have I not blogged in many days, I also had not checked my email since 3/23! I need a clone. More later.
